How IPG Crafted a DJ Booth Like No Other

Some builds are functional. Some are visual. And some — like the Skull DJ Booth — become legend.

In this behind-the-scenes blog, we reveal how the team at Impact Production Group (IPG) took a raw creative idea and sculpted it into one of the most iconic DJ booths ever built in Mauritius.

Because making something unforgettable starts long before event day.

It Started With a Sketch

Every big idea starts small : in this case, with pencil on paper.

Our design team began by sketching a skull concept that would feel bold, theatrical, and a little dangerous. We wanted to capture the fantasy of a pirate universe but blend it with the power and excitement of a live DJ set.

The vision? A booth that didn’t just support the show :  it was the show.

We translated those early sketches into 3D models, where we:

  • Adjusted proportions to fit AV gear and DJs comfortably
  • Integrated structural support into the design
  • Ran simulations for lighting, ventilation, and cable routing

Every technical need had to fit seamlessly within the creative shell.

Building the Beast

To build the skull, we worked with lightweight metal sheets, carefully shaped and soldered to form the structure. The materials needed to be durable yet light enough for safe rigging and installation.

We combined:

  • CNC-cut wood panels for precise curves and contours
  • Custom metal bracing to ensure stability and support

Once the framework was in place, the surface sculpting began:

  • Intricate carvings gave the skull depth and personality
  • Every crack, tooth, and ridge was hand-textured for realism

Total build time: 3 weeks. Test phase: 3 days of lighting, gear testing, and structural checks.

Lighting, Sound, and Effects

Once the skull was ready, our tech team stepped in

We outfitted the booth with:

  • Internal LED red lights for the eyes
  • Backlighting to give it a floating effect at night
  • Hidden FX triggers for fog
  • Internal shelves, power supply, and ventilation for DJ gear
On-Site Installation: Precision Meets Performance

The booth was transported in sections and assembled at the venue with military precision. We used reinforced rigging and base platforms to ensure absolute safety.

Setup time: 1.5 days

Rehearsal night was electric. The lighting sequences danced with the sound. The skull glowed with life. As our technicians tested the booth, the entire stage came alive.

Why This Build Worked

This wasn’t just about spectacle — it was about intention.

We built the Skull DJ Booth with these goals:

  • Create emotional impact through shape, light, and scale
  • Enhance the artist experience with a space that felt epic
  • Deliver technical excellence without compromising aesthetics

And it worked. The booth became the signature element of the event. The moment people walked in, they pulled out their phones.

It wasn’t just a DJ booth. It was a stage, a sculpture, and a photo op — all rolled into one.

The Feedback
🗨️ “The skull became the face of our entire brand campaign. We built all our visuals around it.”
🗨️ “You know you’ve nailed it when guests line up to take selfies with a DJ booth.”
🗨️ “IPG delivered more than we expected — they gave us something people still talk about.”
What We Learned (And Apply to Every Project)
  1. Design with emotion : People connect with stories, not specs.
  2. Build with purpose : Every screw, spotlight, and angle must serve the moment.
  3. Think long-term : We build pieces that are reusable, modular, and impactful for future events.

Whether you need a skull, spaceship or digital tunnel — the principle is the same: experience first.
