For a high-octane pirate-themed shipwreck event, we built a custom skull-themed dancefloor that turned heads, lit up cameras, and nearly got wrecked by the elements. Here’s how we saved the show and made it unforgettable.

The Brief: Design a Dancefloor with a Bite
The client wanted a bold, edgy centerpiece that tied into the Skull DJ Booth and the larger pirate narrative. Our creative team proposed a giant vinyl skull, placed at the heart of a custom-built floor, positioned to capture attention, encourage interaction, and drive the night’s energy forward.

Curveball: Wind, Sand, Rain and a Last-Minute Reprint

Everything was set. The skull vinyl had been printed. The plywood flooring was prepped. But just as our team began applying the sticker on-site, a sudden burst of wind blew sand and rain beneath the surface:  ruining the finish.

With hours to go before doors opened, IPG’s in-house production team sprang into action.

  • We reprinted part of the vinyl in record time
  • Re-prepped the surface to perfection
  • Applied the new decal seamlessly, just in time for lights-on

This wasn’t your average floor. The structure was carefully engineered at our IPG workshop with:
  • Plywood platform with anti-slip sealant for safety
  • Custom-cut vinyl skull decal, printed by our collaborators
  • Shock-absorbent framing for comfort and durability
Every step guest took lit up the night : both literally and on social media.
